Date: 24th April 2007 Time: start 10:30 pm - end 12:00 am
Attendance: Muiz, Jaa, Hassan, Thaa, Annu Purpose of Meeting:
This meeting was held to discuss Rosemont issues and various issues related to fundraising.
Minutes:
Rosemont issues:
First point on the agenda was the Rosemont issues. Muiz informed everyone that he was informed by Barnet Council that they have decided to change the classification of the house to Class M (Halls of Residence) based on the information they have gathered. Thus that the Rosemont Regulations have been accordingly modified and sent to many members who have been involved with Rosemont issues for several years and also the same has been put up on the MSA forum for open discussion.
The new Rosemont Regulation is to be finalized and informed to the MoE and brought into effect on 1 June 2007.
One of the main changes to the Regulation is that there will be a fund opened at the house for visitors and other well wishers to donate towards maintenance expenses of the House. Furthermore, the maximum number of days a student can visit the house per academic year is to be made as 30. And also, charges are to be taken from students who wish to stay at the house on a temporary basis during the designated summer period.
The issue about insurance is to be looked into and appropriate action taken to make sure the house is adequately insured.
A member of the association approached MSA regarding money that he paid to the High commission before Rosemont was handed over to MSA. MSA has decided to notify the High commission about this issue and to inform the member to approach the High commission directly.
The Rosemont telephone line is currently under a member's name. This is bound to cause problems when the member leaves Rosemont. Because of this it was decided that MSA would try to get a package which includes Phone, Internet and Cable TV. It was decided to approach Education Ministry and ask them whether we can get this package under government name so that the services will always be under MSA control.
Annu was given the task of polishing up the Rosemont application form. It was also decided to advertise in Maldivian newspapers about Rosemont rooms availability.
Due to the residents of Rosemont leaving at the end of May, It was decided that the current Rosemont committee is only valid until 31st of May 2007.
Fund raising events:
Various means of raising fund for MSA activities are to be sought, as agreed at the beginning of this CC's term. It was noted that most of the MSA funds were utilized for the EGM.
Annu suggested that a Photo Exhibition can be held in London showcasing photographers in the Maldives. We can get resorts and companies to sponsor the event and to send in photos as well.
An action plan is to be made regarding the event. Annu was tasked with this. All information is to be gathered and sent for scrutinizing by the CC.
Putting up of advertising banners on the MSA website was discussed and the available sized and prices were decided.
MSA awareness Event:
A seminar is to be held during summer holidays in Male', as previously decided. This is to raise awareness of MSA and its Activities in Male'.
A separate meeting is to be held to brainstorm about the subject.
Other discussions:
Thaa, Annu and Hassan will be helping out with Go-Teach project during summer as they would all be in Male' during that period.
Minivan News has requested MSA on whether they can write a report on the ongoing activities of MSA. It was decided that we would send in a report of the events that has been held and upcoming events for this year. Annu to write up the article.
A request was received from a UK company interested in finding Maldivian translators who can translate documents between English and Dhivehi. Ja to contact them regarding this.
