Our association is registered with the Ministry of Education of the Maldives. The MoE, by law, acts as the regulatory body for the association.

The association is made up of its members. Thus the members are the most important root of MSA. Currently the membership of MSA is free and all full-time/part-time students who are studying in the UK become a Full Member of the association by default, according to its constitution. And any student who is doing a correspondence course, or those students who have completed their studies in the UK are considered to be Associate Members by default. However, any member (full/associate) has the full right to opt out of membership by informing the association in writing.

Associate membership can also be given, to any student who is studying in another country. In addition to this, Honorary Membership of the association can be awarded to anyone who the association recognise to have contributed to a great extent to the betterment of the association.

From the Full-Members, an elective body is formed at the end of every term(year), at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association. This elective body is called the Central Committee (CC). The CC has the responsibility of running the association and managing the day-to-day affairs of the association, in addition to working with the members towards achieving the aims and objectives of the association. The CC also has the responsibility of managing 9 Rosemont Avenue, the 3-bedroomed terraced house in North Finchley, London designated by Ministry of Education to Maldivian students.

The CC has five elected members. They are the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Students Advisor, Secretary, and Treasurer. The roles and responsibilities of each member are detailed in the MSA Constitution. The term of office of the CC is until the next AGM, which is to be held at the end of one calendar year (normally in the last week of December)

In addition to the CC, another elective body is formed to give advice and guidance to the CC, to make sure that the association is run according to the aims and objectives of the association and according to the rules and regulations concerned. This body is called the Advisory Council (AC). The AC has a term of two calendar years, and is elected at every other AGM. The AC consists of four members, out of which three are elected mentors and one is the chairperson of MSA of the year that just finished. This position is given automatically.
The CC has the choice, according to the constitution, to form any number of sub-committees to assist with the proper and effective management of the association. One such sub-committee that is normally formed by the CC is the Rosemont Committee (RC).

RC is an appointed body by the CC to assist the CC in managing the day-to-day issues of 9 Rosemont Avenue. The number of members in the RC and how the members are chosen is the choice of the CC, with the view that this is to make the execution of their tasks and the relationship between the bodies as smooth, focused, and effective as possible. The term of the RC is also defined by the CC, but could not extend beyond the term of the CC.

In addition to the RC, the CC may form other sub-committees, as mentioned above, if the CC decides to be deemed necessary to help in achieving greater success to the association.

In conclusion it has to be mentioned that the successful running of the association rests in the full cooperation amongst all the members and the elected/appointed bodies. The stronger the unity the better the outcome will be.
