Maldives suffered terrible losses when the destructive tsunamis struck our vulnerable country on 26 December 2004 causing so much misery and devastation. We extend our sincere commiserations to all those affected, not only in the Maldives but also elsewhere. We pray Allah for the souls of the deceased. For those who have been fortunate enough to survive the disaster, we pray Allah to let them emerge from this catastrophe stronger in their faith and spirit
During the Annual General Meeting held on 30 December 2004 in London, the Members established a taskforce to do what MSA-UK can in the wake of this disaster. During the same meeting, the Members also decided to donate Rf 65,000 (around £2,700) to the Disaster Relief Fund established by the Government. Ms Aamal Ali, one of three elected members of the newly constituted Advisory Council, has already handed over this donation to the National Disaster Management Centre in Male’.
MSA-UK’s 20th anniversary falls this year. We look forward to receiving ideas from Members to mark this occasion. We also wish to receive feedback from Members on improving our services to our membership, and improving the systemic status of this organization. This includes issues relating to budget, general management, public relations and issues in any other areas that Members deem appropriate to take up.
