The Department of Higher Education and Training is to short-list candidates for award of scholarships by the National Fund for Higher Education and Training, according to Dr Abdul Muhsin Mohamed, the Assistant Executive Director at the Department of Higher Education and Training in the Maldives.  A news article in Dhivehi on  Haveeru says that interviews with short-listed candidates will be completed before the end of the month. 786 applications (721 for undergraduate courses) were made under the first such scheme established by the Government. On completion of courses candidates are to repay in ten years 15 percent of the total costs of the course. Last December the Department selected 25 candidates for higher education and training under a loan scheme under which candidates are to repay the loan in ten years after completion of their studies.
