The MSA(UK) EGM of 2004 and its colourful events have ended after a very festive, challenging and enjoyable time in London. The EGM was held at 9 Rosemont Avenue, London from 09th-11th April 2004. Members arrived for the EGM on Thursday, 09th April 2004 and started to depart on Sunday, 11th April 2004. A total of 39 members took part in the events and activities of the gathering.
There were a number of competitions and games held before the meeting. The fun activities started on Friday 09th April 2004, with a cricket match between the team "The Legend of Bulifeyshi" and "Pix & Mix". The cricket match was played at the Finchley grounds. The Legend of Bulifeyshi won the match by beating the Pix & Mix by just 2 runs. Shafiu (Manchester) of the Legend of Bulifeyshi was declared the man of the match after making 101 runs. Abulo (Manchester) of Pix & Mix was declared as the best team player.
The big match was played on Friday afternoon after Friday prayers at 16:00Hrs in Finchley grounds. Unlike other days, the climatic conditions were extremely good and with sunshine and temperature reaching 15C which was morale boosting for the players from both sides. The football match was played between London vs UK United. The Londoners were again defeated by the UK United Team by 2-1 goals. Both teams played very well and the first half ended with a draw with nil goals. UK United scored two goals in the second half one by Shafiu (Manchester) and other by Sammy (Leeds) after a tight fight.
London Team then brought some very important strategic changes during the second half. These include changing the goalie to Jameel, Iya as the defender and Jeku playing to forward position. The strategic change was proven to be a success when London Team scored a goal just within minutes of change. The goal was scored by Vittey (Kingston).After a busy day of activities members returned home to enjoy a grand buffet dinner. The theme was "The Maldivian Night" with varieties of traditional Maldivian dishes including Garudhiya, Fihunu Mas and with side dishes such as Baraboa Mashuni, Ala, Katala, Lonumirus and many more mouth watering traditional Maldivian dishes. Members enjoyed the dinner and started the Pool competition. Due to the large number of members taking part, the pool competition was held as doubles championship and eight teams took part in the competition. The final match was played between AeroQ Breakers (Iya & Haidar) and the Papadoms (Abulo & Sappe').
The AeroQ Breakers team lifted the Championship title after defeating the Papadoms by 2/3 matches. Late night events such as Lavabazee continued throughout the night.
The most important event of this gathering was the Extraordinary General Meeting of 2004, which was held on Saturday, 10th April 2004 at 17:30Hrs. The Chief Guest of the meeting was the Acting Maldivian High Commissioner to London, Mr Adam Hassan. One of the significant event of the EGM2004 was that discussions were held about the proposed amendments to the constitution. A simple vote of was taken and the proposed amendments were passed with slight changes.
After the discussions, Mr Adam Hassan handed the prizes to the winners of the competitions. A vote of thanks speech was then given by Vice Chairperson, Mohamed Ahmed (Manik) and the meeting ended. After the meeting all members gathered around the dinner table for the grand "farikkolhu" with many delicious dishes on the table. After enjoying the meal, members then proceeded to Hollywood Bowl, for bowling. The event became more enchanting by the presence of Mr Adam Hassan with the rest of the members. Shafiu from Manchester made the highest score of 136 points and Shamma from Bristol was the highest female scorer with 70 points.
After bowling, other activities continued through out the night. These include "karaoke", pool, foosball (table football). MSA(UK) Central Committee said the gathering as "very successful and the EGM environment was very friendly and untied". Manik, Vice Chairperson stated that "We have done our level best to make the EGM2004 and its events as much enjoyable to our members. He added, "We are also looking forward to arrange more fun events during the year, especially the Beach Party and also to have a grand AGM this December". Habaru Issey, the Chairperson expressed his happiness as the EGM environment was very friendly and welcoming. "It was nice to see all the members united and having a good time during the EGM. The atmosphere was excellent and I hope members enjoyed the EGM and their stay with us". He also expressed his gladness to see the current constitution amended and is eager to see an Advisory Council elected during the AGM2004.
