The memories are still vivid and fresh in many of those who, on 26th December 2004, saw nature unleash such power of never seen before proportions on our beloved archipelago. The day has etched itself firmly on our calendars not only because of the loss of lives and the damage it incurred but more for the symbol it has become: a mark of national unity. We've learnt humility in face of adversity that we've never imagined and learnt the value of the simplicity and safety we enjoy in our everyday lives. It is something we all hope that we do not have to face ever again.
Two years on and although things have returned to normalcy for the most part, we acknowledge the plight of our brothers and sisters who wait patiently to find a home in the government's resettlement plans. We take this opportunity to urge all the parties concerned to do their best in making this a reality as soon as possible. We also urge the communities to aid in resettlement and help the newly adopted community members to integrate and find acceptance and opportunity.
On behalf of the members of MSA-UK, we extend our sincere love and support to the families and friends of those who lost lives and went missing on that day. May all those who lost lives find tranquility at the gates of heaven. May all those who were displaced find permanent shelter they could call home. May we find protection from such disasters in the future. Amen.
