The Chief Government Spokesman, Dr Ahmed Shaheed who is currently on an official visit to UK, today, met some senior members of the Maldivian Students’ Association – MSA (UK) at the Maldives High Commission in London. Current central committee and past central committee members were present at the meeting.
The main aim of the meeting was to clarify concerns of the Maldivian students currently studying in UK and to update them on the current political developments in the Maldives. This interactive meeting which lasted nearly four hours, allowed members to raise and discuss various issues in an informal environment.
This meeting further highlighted the publication in the Maldivian media, regarding the involvement of MSA (UK) in the recent protests in London. In this regard, Dr Shaheed informed the members that he did not report the media of any such involvement of MSA (UK) in arranging the protests.
On behalf of the members of the association, the Chairperson Mr Ismail Mohamed raised various concerns including well-being of the Chairman of Villa Foundation, Mr. Qasim Ibrahim. Members also raised important issues including improvement of the facilities for the students in the UK.
The members thanked Dr Shaheed for giving this opportunity despite his busy schedule. Members further expressed their appreciation to the Acting High Commissioner Mr Adam Hassan and the staff of the Maldives High Commission, London for arranging this successful meeting and for their continuous support. Dr Shaheed concluded by thanking members for taking time out and especially for those who travelled a long distance to attend the meeting.
