Annual General Meeting 2005 held and a new Central Committee elected

The MSA Annual General Meeting 2005 was held at Martin Junior School (London) on December 30, 2005. The meeting was attended by thirty nine members and associate members. The High Commissioner of the Maldives to the UK, Mr. Hassan Sobir and the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Adam Hassan were also present at the meeting.
The meeting began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Ahmed Shafiu and proceeded to discuss the new constitution proposed by the outgoing Central Committee. This was the main highlight of the event and several members voiced their concerns regarding the constitution and raised questions on its implications and relevancy. Unfortunately, a decision could not be reached by the end of the allocated time. The Annual Report and the Financial Report was then presented by the Chairperson and the Treasurer, respectively.
The meeting then moved onto the election of a new Central Committee for the year 2006. The composition of the Central Committee 2006, elected under the constitution of the Association is as follows:
Chairperson: Ms Aishath Ali Naaz
Vice Chairperson: Mr Mohamed Razeem
Secretary: Mr Jawish Hameed
Treasurer: Mr Abdulla Muthalib
Student Advisor: Mr Ismail Shafeeq
Changes to the Advisory Council were also made as per the Constitution and had Mr. Ismail Mohamed replaced by Mr Fazeel Najeeb (MSA Chairman, 2005). The Advisory Council is now composed of:
• Ms Aamal Ali
• Dr Hassan Ugail
• Mr Abdulla Shareef
• Mr fazeel Najeeb
Additional changes were also made to the Rosemont Committee, which now is as follows:
• Central Committee
• Advisory Committee
• Dr Ahmed Shafiu (appointed member)
• Ali Haidar Ahmed (appointed member)
• Abdullah Mohamed (former treasurer)
• Ahmed Shareef (Rosemont warden)
A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of the lives lost in the devastating tsunami that swept over Maldives on December 26, 2004. Contributors to the Maldivian Evening 2005 were also given certificates of participation and were handed out by the High Commissioner Mr Hassan Sobir.
The meeting ended with celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of MSA-UK. A cake was cut to mark the occasion and members gathered afterwards for a group photo.
