The High Commission of Maldives hosted an iftar (breaking of fast during the month of Ramadan) for Maldivian students in the UK. The annual social event was this year held on 22 October 2005 at the High Commissioner's Residence in London.
Many students, accompanied by their families, attended the event. After iftar, Mr Ali Haidar Ahmed, a final year PhD student and former Chairperson of MSA-UK, led the Maghreb prayers. Afterwards, the Acting Commissioner, Mr. Adam Hassan briefly addressed and thanked the students for their presence. Ms Geela Ali, the Vice-Chairperson of the Maldivian Students Association, in the absence of the Chairperson Mr Fazeel Najeeb, who was out of town on the day, thanked Mr. Adam Hassan and the staff of the High Commission for hosting the iftar.
The event provided an opportunity for new and continuing Maldivian students to get acquainted with each other and with the staff at the High Commission.
