Maldivian students who are newly enrolling in the UK educational establishments are advised to get a student visa BEFORE they travel to the UK. Although upon arrival the UK Immigration might grant you a visa on producing relevant documents (normally acceptance letters and financial commitments) , it will only be a six months' visitor's visa. This will cause you problems in opening a bank account, registering with a doctor, dentist, and could present a host of other irritations. For renewal of your visitor's visa, you will have to send in your passport to the Home Office by post six weeks before the expiry of the visa. It will cost you £335 for postal applications!
Therefore, MSA-UK strongly advises students to obtain their student visas from the British High Commission in Colombo prior to their departure to the UK. They will require you to attach with the application for visa, the same documents as above. For further details on UK visa follow the link on our submenu 'visa' under 'student information'.
In addition, you may also send us an email to chair@msa-uk.org on any other matter relating your studies in the UK.
